Dear xxxxx

Football is at a massive crossroads and I am writing to ask you to pledge your support to deliver realistic long-term change and make our council a Fair Game Council.

Frequently bad management has gone unnoticed or ignored and clubs are run unsustainably, putting at risk all the history, heritage, and economic benefit they bring to an area – often in pursuit of short-term gain. The financial gaps between divisions have turned football into a mecca for gamblers.

A new Independent Regulator for English Football will help, but that is still more that needs to be done.

Fair Game, a group of 34 value-driven professional football clubs, believes the Regulator represents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to change football for the better.

Central to that goal is the recognition of the importance of football clubs to their local communities and the positive impact they can have.

The Regulator needs the powers to address football’s flawed financial flow and encourage clubs to invest in football academies, new capital projects and community projects.

So far dozens of high-profile politicians have backed Fair Game, including eight councils - Barrow-on-Furness Borough Council, Cumbria County Council, Kendal Town Council, Oldham Council, Stoke-on-Trent Council, Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council, Newcastle City Council and Shropshire Council.

It would be brilliant if you could propose a motion backing Fair Game and help securing the future of our National Game. To help Fair Game have prepared a template motion for you here.

And of course it would be wonderful if you could organise a meeting with Fair Game’s CEO, Niall Couper by emailing niall.couper@fairgameuk.co.uk.

Yours sincerely
