Volunteer role: Non-Executive Director
Team: Fair Game
Location: Remote
Reports to: Fair Game Board
Time commitment: Attend quarterly Board meeting, providing advice when appropriate, supporting other projects, and participating in some briefing calls
Time Period: Ongoing
FAIR GAME VISION
We are an organisation of value-driven clubs, supported by world-renowned experts and backed by leading politicians. Our aim is to transform football for the better. We want a sport where every fan can put their shirt on in the morning proud in what it stands for, safe in the knowledge that the traditions and heritage of their club will always be there.
FAIR GAME STRUCTURE
The day-to-day operations of Fair Game are largely run by board members and representatives of Fair Game clubs, with the able assistance of academics and sports experts all dedicated to helping deliver our aims and goals. We are entirely volunteer led, and a non-profit group. We are currently working towards social enterprise status.
Non-executive Directors will sit on our board. The rest of the board is made up of Executive Directors (volunteers who play a leadership role within the team) and three Club Representatives Directors chosen by our Advisory Council.
THE ROLE
Our NEDs will bring independent and lay perspectives to the Board, with specialist skills in some areas. We need our NEDs to be able to commit to the Nolan Principles of Public Life which underpin our approach to good governance.
Following a recent skills audit, we are specifically looking for NEDs who can bring these skills to our Board:
Fundraising and income generation: As a small but growing team, we need to bring in crucial funding to develop our research and advocacy work, as well as operational support.
Compliance and data protection: We are keen to further develop our own internal approach and support the internal governance team.
Legal advice: As we develop more partnerships, we would value legal input on the Board, particularly from someone with a special knowledge of the responsibilities of Community Interest Companies.
An understanding of governance and football networks: We are keen to recruit an individual who can help us navigate football politics and in particular help guide us in bringing together like-minded individuals and tackling equality standards.
