Fair Game goes to Parliament to launch Solutions for Our National Game

To mark the launch of Solutions for Our National Game, Ambassador John Scales and supporters across the country made a simple call: We Want a Fair Game

FAIR GAME, a group of 18 football clubs across England and Wales, today revealed its proposals to overhaul the national game in a new 66-page report entitled Solutions for Our National Game

Nine key issues were identified and each one has been examined in depth by Fair Game’s team of experts.

Speaking at the launch of the report at the House of Commons, Niall Couper, director of Fair Game and a board member of the Dons Trust, owners of AFC Wimbledon, said:

“With the much heralded fan-led review, now is the time to finally reboot our national game and create a secure future for all our clubs.

“No one wants to see another club disappear like Bury or Macclesfield.

“Clubs should not be spending more than they earn on player wages. It is not just unsustainable, it is reckless and it is playing Russian roulette with the history and traditions of our clubs.

“The parachute payments just make that problem worse. They need to be redistributed in a way that encourages and incentivises clubs to be at the heart of our communities. And that’s what the proposed sustainability index does.

“We are not a breakaway – we are holding regular talks with the EFL – but we do believe we could be leading a breakthrough.”
