Bolton MP declares support for Fair Game and the future of our National Game

“I wholeheartedly support the aims of Fair Game to protect our football clubs for our fans and local communities”

Chris Green, MP for Bolton West & Atherton

CHRIS Green has today given his full support to Fair Game, the group of 34 value-driven football clubs that is striving to change the way football is run for the better.

The MP for Bolton West and Atherton said: “Football clubs, such as Bolton Wanderers at the heart of my constituency, need a better system of regulation as the current setup fails to protect the interests of the fans.

“There is almost universal agreement that other clubs are at risk without a better system of governance, so we need change urgently.

“Therefore, I wholeheartedly support the aims of Fair Game to protect our football clubs for our fans and local communities.”

The news comes hot on the heels of the publication of Tracey Crouch’s Fan-Led Review into the governance of football. The Review adopted nearly all of Fair Game’s recommendations, including commitments to embed financial sustainability, good governance, equality standards and fan engagement.

Niall Couper, the CEO of Fair Game, added: “We are delighted that Chris has given us his full support. It’s brilliant news.

“Football is at a crossroads. Tracey Crouch’s Fan-Led Review has mapped out a path for the future, but it’s now over to our leaders to be brave.

“We need more politicians like Chris. Politicians who are prepared to stand up for their communities, drive the Review forward and deliver the legislation our national game desperately needs.”
