‘When it comes to improving football we need to act as one’

Nigel Clibbens, Chief Executive of Carlisle United

CARLISLE UNITED gave Fair Game a brilliant weekend boost this morning by becoming the last club to join our mission to change the way our national game is run.

Carlisle join Accrington Stanley, Bury AFC, Cambridge United, Chester FC, Ebbsfleet United, Grimsby Town, Luton Town, Maidstone United Newport County AFC, Tonbridge Angels and AFC Wimbledon as members.

The group will be working together to find long-term solutions to governance structures, sustainability, integrity and community issues currently in the game, and will be giving evidence to the Tracey Crouch fan-led review on Monday.

Nigel Clibbens, Chief Executive of Carlisle United, said: “Carlisle is a great community club. The recent European Super League debacle, and the long standing instability from parachute payments have all shown that we need to act.

“We need to use this opportunity to look at what needs to change, and we need to look at what needs to be protected within the game.

“Right now there is a small window of opportunity through this review.

“Clubs need to come together. We can be rivals for 180 minutes a season, but when it comes to improving football we need to act as one – and that is why we have chosen to join Fair Game.”

Niall Couper, director of Fair Game, said: “I am delighted that Carlisle United have joined.

“Fair Game is calling for fairness, sustainability and success. At Fair Game, we want long-term realistic solutions and we believe we can deliver them.”
