Tranmere Rovers answer the call to reboot our national game

Tranmere make it 13 as Fair Game numbers continue to grow

TRANMERE ROVERS today signed up to a new coalition of football clubs working together to improve governance of football in England and Wales, called Fair Game.

Tranmere join Accrington Stanley, Bury AFC, Cambridge United, Chester FC, Ebbsfleet United, Grimsby Town, Luton Town, Maidstone United Newport County AFC, Tonbridge Angels and AFC Wimbledon as members.

The group, which is in talks with 26 other clubs, will be working together to find long-term solutions to governance structures, sustainability, integrity and community issues currently in the game.

Fair Game seek to influence and work with the government’s fan-led review, chaired by Tracey Crouch MP, to ensure the opportunity for fair, lasting change is taken.

Tranmere Rovers Chairman Mark Palios, said: “Fair Game’s core principles align with our own as a Club. The review represents a real chance for change.

“And to make it happen, we believe that now is the time for clubs to work together. We can be rivals for 180 minutes a season, but when it comes to improving football we need to act as one – and that is why we have chosen to join Fair Game.”

Niall Couper, director of Fair Game, said: “I am delighted that Tranmere have joined.

“Fair Game is calling for fairness, sustainability and success. Following the demise of  clubs like Bury and Macclesfield, and the debacle of the European Super League, it is clear that football needs a reboot.

“At Fair Game, we want long-term realistic solutions and we believe we can deliver them.”
