Fair Game CEO

What was your football highlight of 2024?
No contest. Ronan Curtis’ 94th-minute winner for AFC Wimbledon. If you know. You know.

Either on the pitch, or behind the scenes working in football, who is your person of 2024 and why?
It is really hard to pick one person out. There are so many wonderful people volunteering for Fair Game. Each of which has worked tirelessly in our pursuit to try and deliver a fairer future for football. Thank you one and all

Who in football would you like to give a Christmas present to and what would you gift them?
For me there is one person I would love to thank and that’s Ann Taylor. Ann has been hugely helpful to Fair Game over the years and has given us brilliant advice and support. As a present? Well OK I think I can tolerate Bolton getting promoted

Who in the world of football should be on Santa’s naughty list and why?
Where do I start! The A22? Busy trying to resurrect the misguided European Super League. FIFA? For awarding the most prestigious sporting event to Saudi Arabia. Tory peers? For deliberating filibustering to try and kill the football regulator. Take your pick

If you could make one change to football in 2025, to improve the way the game is played or governed, what would that change be and why?
Easy. A fairer financial flow in football that rewards well-run clubs. The way it operates at the moment is the route of all of the game’s ills. The divides have increasingly encouraged club’s to overspend on players’ wages to compete. Community programmes have been cut, backroom staff are at bare minimum, investment in stadia has taken a back seat and women’s teams are folding. And of course the very existence of clubs, with their years of history and tradition, are at risk

Off the field, what are going to be football’s main talking points in 2025?
The progression of the Football Governance Bill is important, but it will be the shenanigans at Manchester City and all the consequences that will come from that that will undoubtedly grab the headlines.

Thomas Tuchel was recently appointed England’s men’s team manager, can he deliver the World Cup success the English fans so desperately crave?
I am not really sure. For me all I want is a side that shows heart and passion, and leaves the fans knowing they gave it their all.
