What was your football highlight of 2024?
As a staunch Luton Town fan, it has to be the Hatters 4-0 beating of Brighton in January. We all thought.... but football’s not like that is it!
Either on the pitch, or behind the scenes working in football, who is your person of 2024 and why?
It’s the game on the pitch that stirs us. So, it’s either Cole Palmer for his performances, particularly for Chelsea against Everton in April. Or Jude Bellingham, and I’m thinking of that crucial overhead kick for England against Slovakia. Because I like the touch of innocence that Palmer apparently still has, as opposed to the air of entitlement that Bellingham is now adopting, I’ll go for Palmer.
Who in the world of football should be on Santa’s naughty list and why?
Marcus Rashford. He was living the dream, but he’s fallen asleep. Someone needs to wake him up, or his career will disappear.
If you could make one change to football in 2025, to improve the way the game is played or governed, what would that change be and why?
Put the referees on a mic so we can understand their decision-making. Give the fourth official time-keeping duties.
Off the field, what are going to be football’s main talking points in 2025?
Hopefully, the smooth and successful introduction of a strong-willed and competent Football Regulator.
Thomas Tuchel was recently appointed England’s men’s team manager, can he deliver the World Cup success the English fans so desperately crave?
His perceived skill is his ability to influence a game during play. His perceived downside is his ability to fall out with everyone around him. I hope he keeps his temper long enough to bring it home.
