It is time for our politicians to ‘step up to the plate,’ says Fair Game founder club

“This week promises to be transformational for football.

We are on the cusp of something brilliant”

Xavier Wiggins, co-chair of the Dons Trust Board

IN A few days’ time, the review into football’s governance will be published. The next stage will be crucial and Fair Game are calling on politicians of all political persuasion to support us. Among those echoing that call are founder members of Fair Game AFC Wimbledon.

Xavier Wiggins, co-chair of the board of the Dons Trust, the owners of AFC Wimbledon , said: “This week promises to be transformational for football. We are expecting Tracey Crouch to publish her long-awaited review into the financial flow and governance of our national game.

“And the Dons Trust have been working hard to make it happen through our involvement in Fair Game.

“Fair Game is now an organisation of 31 value-driven football clubs supported by over 40 world-renowned experts looking to deliver realistic long-term solutions to the problems in football such as financial sustainability, the ESL and of course protecting the heritage and traditions of our clubs.

“The interim report was promising and we believe we are on the cusp of something brilliant.

“It took in most of Fair Game's calls and suggestions and we’re looking forward to reading the final version. Let's hope our politicians step up to the plate and deliver.”

Niall Couper, CEO of Fair Game, added: “We are in now-or-never territory. Fair Game believes the future of our game lies with a Sustainability Index. An index that incentives clubs to run well, one that allocates football’s wealth to clubs on four criteria clubs: financial sustainability, good governance, equality standards and fan engagement.

“We can change football for the better, but it relies on our politicians to be brave. We are asking all politicians to commit to delivering a Fair Game for football.”
